About Us

From our bayfront to yours, we have been serving the marine industry since 1973. Company founder, Captain Mel Longo, grew up in  the oldest continuous  port in the United States, St. Augusine, FL, whose rich maritime history reflects the arrival of the first Europeans to America’s shores. A city that exists because of its access to the trading routes to Europe and whose shipyards and boatyards build trawlers, freighters and yachts that can be found in ports around the world.

From this base, Captain Longo started a marine service business to handle the delivery needs of local shipyards whose vessels were circling the globe. Providing delivery crews to fleet owners of fishing trawlers gave Capt. Longo the stability to establish this service. He and his wife Diane, incorporated the business as Bayfront Marine, Inc. in 1986. The company has grown to provide more than just delivery crews and can help customers with the following related services:

  • Owner’s representation at shipyards.
  • Re-commissioning of laid-up vessels.
  • Sea trials
  • Insurance matters
  • Port clearance and handling
  • Fueling and optimal fuel management
  • Shipping and towing services
  • Crew training
  • Marine operations

Our crews can handle specialty marine cargoes that can only be delivered effectively by heavy lift or float-on, float-off ships. We provide the customer, whose vessel is either too small or not capable of making a coastwise or ocean voyage, the complete solution to transporting to the owner’s port of operation. We deliver the vessel to the loading port, supervise loading and unloading and deliver to the owner’s dock.

During the 1990s, Bayfront Marine personnel delivered over thirty two casino vessels and provided the casino industry with marine operations support. This support included hiring and training marine crews, regulatory advice and consulting, marine facility consulting and owner’s representation at the shipyard.

As of December 31, 2008, our crews have been responsible for the safe handling of 585 vessels and have been in over thirty countries worldwide.  We continue to provide our customers with innovative solutions to their marine problems.
